The E-Lam Story

LAMINATED WOOD TOWERS... lasting beauty and strength

Laminated Wood Towers are a valuable site planning resource, as strong as steel, functional and attractive. They blend equally well into urban, rural and mountain environments... warming the hearts of zoning boards everywhere.

Design Engineering - E-Lam towers are designed EIA/TIA-222e, UBC and AASHTO standards to carry the wind, ice and antenna loads planned for the site. Complete fabrication, assembly and foundation drawings are provided, stamped by a state registered PE... ready for permit process.

Stability - Unlike natural timber and steel towers, E-Lam towers do not bend, twist or crack with age or solar heating. The natural dampening of wood and freedom from heat deflection. The result... antennas pointing at the appropriate azimuth... perfect for narrow beamwidth panel antenna and microwave installations.

Fabrication - E-Lam towers are laminated using kiln dried, straight, hand-selected lumber... making E-Lam towers far stronger than any natural pole. Individual boards are coated with epoxy then laid up in a huge press where the assembly cures. Later, sharp edges are removed and tapers are added with a huge saw. Huge drill presses add any necessary holes.

Preservative - To prevent rot, mildew, bird, rodent or insect damage, E-Lam towers are pressure-treated with preservatives after fabrication. The preservative penetrates well into the dried wood. The life of E-Lam towers is estimated somewhere between 100 and 100,000 years! There is no known failure mechanism... and we have never suffered a wind overload.

Antenna Mounts - A multitude of antenna mounts are available, designed for use on E-Lam towers.

Site Kit - LWS provides a complete tower kit, including any radial arms, antenna mounts, microwave mounts, climbing steps, safety cable, etc. All mounting holes are pre-drilled and all necessary through-bolts are provided. There should never be any delays in the field.

Foundation - No concrete foundation is needed... saving $5-10k per site! Bore a hole, set the pole and backfill with crushed aggregate. No rebar, no bolt cage, no concrete, no wait for the concrete to cure. Experienced crews can generally assemble and set an E-Lam tower in four hours.

Expected Lifetime - E-Lam poles have been in use by the electrical power industry for more than 40 years. E-Lam telecommunication towers have been used by most major carriers for the past 7 years. with no hint of complications or failure.

Cost and Delivery - It takes only a day or two to design and cost an E-Lam tower to your specifications. Fabrication takes 30-45 days from the date the design is signed off by the customer.
